The Koran demands 89 times that Muslims imitate Mohammed in every way. These commands take two types—historical and the other is a direct command. The Meccan Koran is filled with examples of Allah punishing those who failed to follow the previous "prophet/messengers". Moses is a historical example. There are only 5 direct commands to follow Mohammed in Mecca.
Then in the Medinan Koran there are 84 verses with a direct command to obey and follow Mohammed. Why the increase? In Medina, Mohammed was a political leader and needed total command in this world, not the next.
