Canada: Ahmadiyya Women Describe Public Islamic-Heritage Outreach in Barrie

barrietoday.com · October 24, 2026

CSPII Commentary: At a Canadian Islamic Heritage event, visitors were invited to try on hijabs and told veiling represents dignity rather than oppression. Yet CSPII’s Veiling report documents its political and legal significance: Koran 33:59 distinguishes believing women through their dress, while a hadith describes veiling as the marker separating Mohammed’s wife from a slave. Islamic jurisprudence also imposes dress restrictions on women that do not apply equally to men. Presenting the hijab merely as cultural expression obscures its historical and doctrinal role in enforcing Islamic identity, female modesty, and social hierarchies.
