In this episode of Coffee & PI, Milan Podlipny, CEO of CSPII, interviews Olufemi Oyerinde, a Nigerian Christian pastor and missionary. Olufemi comes from a Christian-Islamic family where he both went to Christian church and attended Koranic school, and participated in Islamic rituals.
He emphasizes that Christian missionary work requires a fundamental knowledge of Islamic doctrine. He suggests missionaries engage Muslims with questions about Mohammed, the Koran, and related topics rather than relying solely on standard Gospel presentations.
His main focus, however, is on the ongoing violent persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Olufemi describes systematic attacks on Christian villages, including killings, kidnappings, and enslavement, which he attributes to jihadis who act in accordance with Islamic doctrine. He talks about the violence spreading from the Islamic north to southern regions, criticizes the government for downplaying the motivations of the attackers, for the disarming of Christian communities, and the media’s reluctance to report the facts accurately.
Christian missionary Olufemi Oyerinde calls for greater awareness of Political Islam, better preparation for Christians, and education about Islamic doctrine as a key tool to countering the persecution.
