Announcing CSPII Monitor: Promoting Accurate and Objective Discourse on Islam

September 26, 2025

Topic Cspii-monitor

CSPII is proud to announce the launch of CSPII Monitor, a new project dedicated to improving public understanding and discourse about Islam. Modeled after proven media-monitoring initiatives, CSPII Monitor will track and address inaccurate representations of Islam across news, academia, and public policy discussions.

Why CSPII Monitor?

In recent years, public commentary on Islam has largely overlooked its full scope—portraying it merely as a religion or lifestyle, while ignoring its foundational political, legal, and societal dimensions. Over half of the Islamic primary doctrine—the Koran, Hadith, and Sira— covers governance, legal code (Sharia), warfare (violent Jihad), and regulations regarding non-Muslims.

This reality is frequently omitted in mainstream coverage, leading to distorted perceptions.

Additionally, the concept of “Islamophobia” is typically used to cover a wide range of acts, from legitimate expressions of criticism and concern, up to criminal acts against individuals. This blurring of the lines silences objective, well-founded criticism of Islamic political doctrine, conflating doctrinal critique with racism or bigotry. Such paths of action obscure necessary debate about the political and legal aspects of Islam and foster an atmosphere where honest discussion is discouraged.

What CSPII Monitor Will Address

CSPII Monitor explicitly focuses on:

  • Articles presenting Islam solely as a peaceful faith, omitting its substantial political and legal aspects—including explicit doctrines regarding non-Muslims and the mandate for global Islamic governance
  • Use of the term “Islamophobia”, where critique of Islamic political ideology is equated with irrational hatred or bigotry, with no distinction between prejudice and informed criticism
  • Discussions of terrorism that fail to mention or understate the explicit causal links to Islamic texts, particularly jihad, when such motivations are central and openly cited by perpetrators
  • Incorrect classification of Islam as an Abrahamic religion, despite overwhelming doctrinal departures from Jewish and Christian tradition, and foundational Islamic narratives that replace and contradict biblical accounts.

How CSPII Monitor Works

CSPII systematically reviews major news outlets, academic publications, and statements by public figures for content that inaccurately portrays Islam or suppresses critical discussion by labelling it as “Islamophobia”.

We engage directly with the source—journalists, media outlets, politicians, or institutions—detailing the specific inaccuracies, providing evidence-backed explanations, and attaching the relevant CSPII reports for reference. We ask for transparent correction, amendments, or clarifications to the original piece, informed by robust doctrinal analysis.

Public Accountability—We document each case on the CSPII website and social media channels, outlining the nature of the inaccurate information, our corrective communication, and any follow-up actions. This ensures that both the issue and our recommended corrections are visible to the wider public, enabling responsible coverage and transparency.

Our Goal

To hold the line for truth in an environment where ideological distortion is protected by taboo.

We expose how Islamic doctrine is being incorrectly presented or shielded from critique.

A healthy society must be able to discuss ideas, especially those with political and legal implications. Islamic political ideas must be no exception.
