Invitations to Iftar Meals During Ramadan Are Calls to Islam

February 21, 2026

Topic Dawah Topic Ramadan Topic Iftar

Non-Muslims are often invited to iftar meals and similar public events at Ramadan. Those invited are often politicians, religious leaders, and other community figureheads.

These invitations have their foundation in dawa (the call to Islam). Dawa seeks conversion or submission to Islam. Therefore, this is not a neutral cultural exchange.

Sharing iftar meals with non-Muslims (Kafirs) is done specifically for the purpose of calling them to Islam or reconciling their hearts towards it—otherwise, this would not be permissible as Kafirs cannot be befriended (Koran 3:28, 5:58, 4:144).

Non-Muslims who support or attend such celebrations, especially in Islamic spaces (i.e. mosques, Islamic centers), unintentionally promote and legitimize many aspects of Islamic doctrine:

  1. The subjugation of Kafirs. Ramadan is strongly linked to the Islamic domination of Kafirs (especially through Mohammed’s jihad victory at Badr during Ramadan and the first ever Eid meal that celebrated the triumph). [1] Participating in Ramadan is to submit to Islam.
  2. The political nature of Islamic spaces. Mosques have multiple uses: they can be used as war chambers, a storage space for weapons, a court of law and place for carrying out sentences, etc. They can also be used as places to host diplomats. The invitation to iftar meals, especially for community leaders, can be considered in this context. [2]
  3. Halal: Iftar meals inevitably feature halal food. Halal products, through halal certification organizations, zakat, and other mechanisms, help to strengthen the influence of Political Islam in non-Islamic countries. [3] [4]

Consider this especially in the case of politicians and other community leaders: Mohammed placed so much importance on dealing with non-Islamic diplomats in this way that it was one of his last commands from his deathbed:

Hadith, Bukhari 3053
"Expel the pagans from the Arabian Peninsula, respect and give gifts to the foreign delegates as you have seen me dealing with them."

Accepting gifts and invitations of this type help to create the false impression that Islamic doctrine is friendly to non-Muslims.

Who is planning on attending an iftar meal in your community? Tell us. And we let them know what they’re supporting.
