Historical Background of Islamic Migration

February 15, 2025

Mass immigration is a powerful tool for influencing a host society. It brings new meanings, new ethics, new behavior and relations between people. This is how the political potential of immigration is realized.

It is impossible to fully understand the processes and consequences of mass Islamic immigration into non-Islamic societies without knowing Mohammed. He is the source of answers to all questions about what Islam is.

Mohammed himself emigrated from Mecca to Medina in 622, and over the next 10 years he carried out a complete social and political transformation in Medina: building the first mosque, creating the first Islamic rules governing relations with the local tribes, and brutally subjugating all non-Muslims.

Mohammed's emigration marked the beginning of the Islamic political expansion. Preaching tactics were replaced by political and military tactics.

Since then, Islamic migration (Hijra) has been established as a model to follow, as Mohammed's example is considered sacred according to Islamic doctrine. The Hijra is so significant that the Islamic calendar count begins with it, not with Mohammed's birth or the beginning of his preaching activities. This event was a turning point in the history of Islamic expansion.

When he was just a spiritual leader, Mohammed only converted about 150 people to Islam over 13 years. But when he became a political leader and military commander, there was an explosive growth in the number of his followers, and within 10 years Mohammed became the ruler of all of Arabia.

The symbolism of the Hijra should not be underestimated and seen merely as a medieval historical event. In Political Islam, everything Mohammed did is timeless and exemplary. His life in the seventh century was doctrinally codified as a model of perfect human behaviour (1) in the centuries that followed, right up to the present day.
