What Does Islamic Peace Look Like?

April 29, 2024

From a non-Islamic (Kafir) perspective, the concept of “peace” is a positive state that implies the absence of war and violence.

According to Islamic doctrine, however, there can only be an absence of fighting when the whole world submits to Mohammed and Allah. (1)

The example of Mohammed is clear; fight against the Kafirs (non-Muslims) until they submit. Mohammed explicitly states that the fighting cannot stop until Kafirs submit. According to Islamic doctrine, Mohammed is the perfect example for all of humanity and his example must be followed and obeyed. Not only this, but Allah himself ordains that the Kafirs be fought against and prevailed over. (2)

Therefore, from the Kafir perspective, this “peace” could only exist as the final state of Political Islam when all the Kafirs have submitted. Until then, Islamic doctrine makes it a communal obligation to make jihad on the Kafir. (3)

It is reported on the authority of Abu Huraira that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: I have been commanded to fi ght against people, till they testify to the fact that there is no god but Allah, and believe in me (that) I am the messenger (from the Lord) and in all that I have brought. And when they do it, their blood and riches are guaranteed protection on my behalf except where it is justifi ed by law, and their affairs rest with Allah.
