Have you ever noticed the strange relationship of Islam to dogs? Dogs are seen as impure in Islam. It is even forbidden to have dogs at home, the only exception being dogs kept for security:
Mohammed said, "Whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watchdog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction of two Qirat from his good deeds."(Bukhari 7,67,389)
Just like everything in Islam, this comes from the doctrine. Mohammed disliked dogs and preferred cats. According to some Hadith, he ordered his men at one point to kill all the dogs in Medina. That is explained by a story in which one morning, Gabriel, Mohammed’s connection to Allah, apparently refused to visit him because there was a dog in the house:
Mohammed was upset one morning and Maimunah said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, you look upset today.” He said: “Jibril [Arabic version Gabriel], peace be upon him, had promised to meet me last night but he did not come, and by Allah, he never failed to keep an appointment.” The day passed; then he [Mohammed] thought of a puppy that was beneath a table of ours. He ordered that it be taken out, and then he took some water in his hand and sprinkled it over the place where it had been. That evening, Jibril [Gabriel], peace be upon him, came and met him. Mohammed said to him: “You promised to meet me last night.” He [Gabriel] said: “Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture [of a dog].” The next day Mohammed commanded that dogs be killed. (Nasa’i 5,42,4288)
Later on, Mohammed changed his mind and ordered that not all dogs should be killed, but only those which are aggressive and those which are black, because black dogs are “the devil” (Muslim 1:4:32).
The explanation of this strange hatred for dogs belongs to religious Islam, whereas the act of killing ALL dogs in the city is a political act. This is again one more example which shows that Islam is not only a religion, but also politics. Both parts together, it is a whole different civilisation.
